In the heartland of India, where the whispers of history intertwine with the aspirations for tomorrow, lies Punjab – a region brimming with rich cultural heritage and boundless potential. Within this dynamic blend of tradition and progress unfolds the remarkable journey of Puneet Mahajan.
A seasoned professional with nearly three decades of experience in telecom, media, and healthcare, Puneet has now embarked on a new odyssey in the social sector. When Puneet joined The/Nudge Indian Administrative Fellowship (IAF), Punjab, it represented an expansion of his career horizons, a deliberate choice to amplify his impact on society.
During his 18-month tenure as an Indian Administrative Fellow, Puneet worked alongside the Department of Tourism, Government of Punjab, towards building new avenues for revenue generation along with enhancing the brand visibility of Punjab Tourism through its iconic tagline “India Begins Here”. He was an integral part of path-breaking initiatives in the state, like the first-ever Tourism Investment Summit, the first state-level event, Rangla Punjab and a series of roadshows across the country to attract investment to the state in the field of tourism.
For Puneet, the allure of Punjab’s rich cultural tapestry wasn’t merely nostalgic; it was a beacon of opportunity. “Punjab’s history is our shared heritage, a testament to our resilience and ingenuity,” reflects Puneet. “Yet, there’s still much to be done to harness its full potential and chart a course towards inclusive development.”
Navigating the labyrinth of a department that was given secondary precedence posed challenges, yet Puneet found hope in collaborative endeavours that transcended bureaucratic barriers. “Through the IAF program, I had the privilege of working alongside visionary leaders and passionate colleagues,” recounts Puneet. “Together, we embarked on transformative projects, from revamping cultural policies to leveraging immovable assets, each endeavour a testament to the power of collective action.”
But beyond the professional realm, this journey has been a catalyst for personal development. The dedication of his department colleagues made him realise the spirit of ownership, accountability, and pursuit of excellence echoed universal principles of success, which instilled a newfound belief in governance.
As Puneet’s Fellowship journey nears its conclusion, the ripple effects of his efforts will extend far beyond his 18-month tenure. They serve as a quiet testament to the power of collaboration and unified action in fostering sustainable progress.
